Forged in Fire
After the Thomas Fire consumed his home, studio, and 15 original works of art. After the fire he returned to his former home, gathered a charred beam, ground it to powder and mixed it with acrylic medium to create a 'phoenix black' paint he used for the background of this painting so that the Phoenix is literally rising from the ashes of what once was.
It takes the heat of a fforge to melt down metal and forge them into other things. This little metal phoenix couldn't have been made were it not from the blazing furnace of the thomas fire. from the ashes emerged this little bird of gold and jewels.
