From the Ashes
From the Ashes was Vajra's first painting after the Thomas Fire consumed his home, studio, and 15 original works of art. After the fire he returned to his former home, gathered a charred beam, ground it to powder and mixed it with acrylic medium to create a 'phoenix black' paint he used for the background of this painting so that the Phoenix is literally rising 'From the Ashes'.
